Understanding Domains and Hosting

A domain is your website’s name or address (e.g., google.com, facebook.com). It is what users type into a browser to find your site.

Hosting refers to renting space on a computer (server) to store your website’s data. This includes images, content, and videos. Hosting is necessary because website visitors need to access these files. The server stores the data, so users worldwide can view your website.

With hosting, your images and text are uploaded to a server. When someone visits your site, they can view the content.

Cloudways Autonomous Hosting

Cloudways Autonomous is a fully managed WordPress hosting service that automatically scales resources. This is particularly useful for websites experiencing traffic spikes, such as e-commerce sites running ad campaigns. During a traffic spike, Cloudways Autonomous scales up resources.

Normally, without autoscaling, a traffic spike can slow down your website. You would need to contact your hosting provider to increase resources. Cloudways Autonomous eliminates this need by automatically adjusting resources. It scales down when the traffic decreases.

Cloudways Autonomous is suitable for e-commerce, event, booking, LMS portal, influencer, media, and blogger websites. It’s beneficial for any website anticipating traffic spikes.

Cloudways Autonomous Features and Pricing

Cloudways Autonomous offers features like unlimited PHP workers, auto-scaling, high availability, integrated Cloudflare Enterprise, and integrated Object Cache Pro. They claim to provide fast performance with a low average response time.

Cloudways Autonomous doesn’t offer a free trial. However, you can cancel your subscription and only be charged for the days you used the service. For example, using it for five days would only cost around $5.

If you exceed your plan limits, you will be charged extra. To create an account, visit md.expertazi.com/cloudways. Use the coupon code “expertazi” for a 20% discount for the first 3 months.

Workflow tools allow you to take backups and use staging. Staging management lets you test new code or plugins without breaking your live website. You can also find PHP settings and access logs and traffic analysis.

Managing Domains on Cloudways Autonomous

You can buy a domain from platforms like Namecheap, GoDaddy, or Hostinger. To connect a domain, go to “Manage Application” and then “Domain Management”. Add your domain name and click “Add Domain”.

You’ll need to add a CNAME record. Go to your Cloudflare DNS settings and add the CNAME record. It may take up to 24 hours for the CNAME record to be verified.

Once the domain is added, you can access your WordPress admin page by typing yourdomain.com/wp-admin. Enter your username and password to log in. Changes made in the admin panel will update on the front end of your website.

WordPress Dashboard Overview

After logging in, you will see the WordPress dashboard. Hovering over your website’s name and clicking “View Site” lets you see the front end. As an admin, you’ll see additional settings at the top.

The “Home” section provides information. You can dismiss items you don’t want to see. The “Updates” section shows available updates for themes, plugins, and WordPress.

The “Posts” section allows you to create blog posts. Click “Add New Post” to create a new post. The settings for creating pages and other content are similar.

Pages, Media, Themes and Plugins

The “Media” section is where you upload images and other files. The “Pages” section is similar to “Posts,” but pages are for static content like “Contact,” “Shop,” and “About Us”.

“Themes” control the structure of your website. You can delete unwanted themes, keeping only one active theme. “Plugins” add new features to your website, such as contact forms.

To add a new plugin, click “Add New” in the “Plugins” section. You can search for specific plugins and install them. Some plugins are powerful enough to reduce the need for premium themes.

Users, Profile, and Settings

The “Users” section lets you manage website users. You can add new users and assign roles. The “Profile” section allows you to change your password, name, and biography.

You can also change the admin color scheme in your profile. The “Settings” section lets you change the site title, tagline, site icon, and admin email.

Enable registration if you want users to be able to register on your site. In “Permalinks,” set the permalink structure to “Post name”. This is important for SEO.

Choose a design you like and select a color palette. You can preview how the color palette will look. Select the features you want to add, such as e-commerce or live chat, or choose to skip this step.

Click “Start Building” to generate your website. Once the website is ready, you can view it and go to the dashboard.

Customizing Your Website

To edit a page, click “Edit Page”. You can change text and colors on the right side. The “Page” settings allow you to change the permalink and images.

Each element is a “block”. You can adjust the container type, background images, and animations. For specific text, you can change the content and size.

You can change the call-to-action button to redirect to a specific page. If you don’t like a section, you can use the design library to select a different style.

Additional Customization Options

You can use AI to fix grammar or rewrite text. The design library lets you select different hero sections. You can view your website in tablet and mobile views.

Change text by selecting it and modifying the content. You can track the elements you’re editing at the bottom of the page. Click “Save” to save your changes and “View Page” to see the updated page.

The “About Us” and other pages can be edited in the same way. You can resize images and move elements. Use Ctrl+Z to undo mistakes.

Header and Menu Customization

To customize the header, go to “Customize” at the top of the page and click “Header”. To change the menu, go to “Appearance” and then “Menus”. You can add or remove menu items.

To remove a menu item, click the arrow and then “Remove”. Save the changes. You can also add custom links to the menu.

You can make menu items sub-menus by dragging and dropping them. You can change the logo by clicking on the logo icon. You can also adjust the visibility of the logo on different devices.

Blog and Contact Page Customization

The contact page may require additional setup to ensure the form works correctly. You may need to install an SMTP plugin to fix issues with sending emails.

Follow the linked video to troubleshoot contact form issues. You need to enter an email address to receive submissions. The default email address is the site email address.

Setting Up SMTP

To fix email sending issues, install the WP Mail SMTP plugin. Go to the plugin settings and select “Other SMTP”. Enter the SMTP host, which in this case is “SMTP elastic email.com”.

Set the type to TLS. Enter your username and password. You can find these credentials in your Elastic Email account.

Your domain needs to be verified in Elastic Email. Add the necessary DNS records to your Cloudflare DNS settings. Once the domain is verified, you can enter your SMTP settings in the WP Mail SMTP plugin.

Completing SMTP Setup and SEO

The username is the same as the API key. The “From Email” should be an email address with your domain name. Save the changes and send a test email.

If the test email is successful, your contact form should now work. Make sure the “From Email” in the WP Mail SMTP settings uses your domain name.

For SEO, install the Yoast SEO plugin. For security, install the Threat Styles plugin. Watch the recommended videos for more details on optimizing your website.
